Source SDK Update Released

A Source SDK update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Source SDK
  • Fixed "bCloseSuccessful" bug in Hammer with directory trees too deep
  • Added faceposer
  • Included view model sources for Half-Life 2
  • Revised directory structure - content and sources are kept separate
  • Added presets for expert compiles within Hammer
  • Fixed problems with launching the game from within Hammer
  • Hammer's Game Configurations UI now displays the active configuration on entry
  • Hammer now displays paths in a more readable manner
  • Create a Mod puts the mod content into the SourceMods folder (shows up in Steam's games list)
  • Added vconfig - a tool to handle specifying the current game you're editing
  • Fixes for various cases of path environment variables not working
  • Buildcubemaps fixed
  • Improved startup speed of the SDK launcher
  • Simplified debugging under Steam (eliminated the need to copy steam.dll and make steamapp.cfg)

Kompilieren mit einer Batchdatei

Wir erstellen uns nun die Batchdatei in dem Ordner, wo wir mit dem Hammereditor unsere Maps speichern. Man kann sie auch an einer beliebigen anderen Stelle erstellen, aber ich halte diesen Ort für den sinnvollsten. Man muss für jede Modifikation eine eigene Datei erstellen, da die Kompiler modspezifische Informationen benötigen. Read more ...

Steam Client / Source SDK Update Released

A platform update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Steam
  • Source MODs will now automatically appear in the games list
  • Improved startup process for Steam
  • Fixed crash when creating a backup that would span multiple DVDs
  • Fixed a bug that would unnecessarily validate Steam caches after a cache corruption
  • Fixed Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes and Codename Gordon failing to backup correctly
  • Fixed a bug where the message "the game files will be deleted and re-acquired" would repeat
  • Fixed offline mode failing after not connecting to Steam for more than a month

Half-Life 2
  • Optimization to the Steam filesystem to reduce game launch and level transition time

Source SDK
  • Simplified debug-launch process for MOD developers. MOD developers no longer need to place a config file in their directory
  • Added a registry key for MOD developers to use to locate a user's Steam installation located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SourceModInstallPath

HL2DM, Source SDK, Source Engine Update Released

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Source SDK, and Source Engine updates are available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
  • Players now play grenade throw animation and RPG fire animation
  • Items and weapons punted from their original spawn position now return after x time has passed (sv_hl2mp_weapon_respawn_time, sv_hl2mp_item_respawn_time)
  • Improved player crouch animations

Source SDK
  • Included support for making HL2DM maps
  • Included sample source HL2DM map: dm_lockdown.vmf
  • Added xwad, vtf2tga, and glview tools
  • Fixed problems running vrad on certain machines
  • Fixed bugs adding game configurations with long paths
  • Improved detection of bad game paths

Source Engine
  • Fixed server plugins not loading under Steam
  • Fixed rcon kick failing
  • Fixed UDP logging functions not working properly with quoted strings

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and SDK Update

A Half-Life 2 update has been released via Steam. Please restart Steam to apply the update.

Included in this update:

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
  • New multiplayer game featuring physics simulation system

Half-Life 2/Source SDK
  • Includes game code needed to create Half-Life 2/Source MODs
  • Ability to edit Half-Life 2 maps
  • Maya model exporter
  • 3d Studio Max model exporter source code
  • Sample MOD with vehicles

Source Updates
  • HTTP and non-HTTP map auto downloading functionality
  • Enhanced dedicated server logging capabilities
  • Various tweaks and fixes

*Also: A Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Map Making Contest has been announced. The winning entry will receive a cash prize of $5,000. Two runner up entries will receive a cash prize of $3,000.

Source SDK Tools Available Now

Valve has released the Source Software Development Kit (SDK) Tools via Steam. A precursor to the release of the full SDK, which will be released shortly after Half-Life 2 is made available, the Source SDK Tools release offers a comprehensive toolset for starting production on Source-based MODs, including Hammer, XSI EXP for Half-Life 2, compiling tools, the Source Model Viewer, documentation on programming, modeling, building materials, and more.
